BUILDING BOARD CODE OF APPEALS:
There is currently one vacancy on the Building Code Board of Appeals. We are in need of one citizen. The Board was created to determine the suitability of alternate materials and type of construction to provide for reasonable interpretations of the building code, and housing maintenance code, and holds hearings pursuant to the Housing Code relating to dangerous buildings.
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY:
There are currently two vacancies on the DDA. This board consists of 13 members with at least seven having an interest in downtown district property, and at least one member a resident of the downtown district. The authority works on the development and implementation of a plan relating to the downtown.
HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION:
There is currently one vacancy on the Historic District Commission. This board consists of seven City residents who serve three year terms. At least two members from a list of citizens submitted by a duly organized and existing local historical and/or preservation society(s) and, if available, one architect or graduate of an accredited school of architecture who has two years of architecture experience, or who is an architect registered in this state. The commission oversees the preservation of historic buildings with designated City boundaries and safeguards the heritage of the City of Jackson by preserving a historic district.
HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION:
There is currently one vacancy on the Human Relations Commission. This board consists of nine citizens; at least five must be City residents. Board members serve three year terms. The commission promotes mutual understanding, dignity and respect among all racial, religious and nationality groups, and works to discourage and prevent discriminatory practices against any such groups.
JACKSON TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY
There is currently one vacancy for the Jackson Transportation Authority. The Authority plans, promotes, purchases, acquires, establishes, owns operates the public transportation system. The board consists of nine persons. The City Council shall provide advice and consent regarding three city residents who must be 18 years of age and a registered voter. They serve three-year terms. Elected officers or employees of the city cannot serve as members.
LOCAL OFFICERS COMPENSATION COMMISSION:
There is currently one vacancy on this seven member Commission. All members must be registered electors. The commission determines and recommends the salaries of local elected officials.
PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION:
There are currently two vacancies on the Public Arts Commission. The board consists of five members who shall be residents of the City of Jackson and serve three year terms. Up to three appointed ex-officio members who will serve three-year terms. The commission provides a platform that advises the City Council on public art displays, and utilizes civic art as a way to increase community revitalization efforts.
