Jackson City Council Feb. 25, 2020 meeting

Jackson City Council 2-25-20 meeting

Here are some highlights from the Feb. 25, 2020 meeting of the Jackson City Council:

-The council voted unanimously to appoint Jonathan Greene as the Interim City Manager. He was previously made Acting City Manager by outgoing manager Patrick Burtch. The council agreed to appoint him interim manager for six months.  There was no discussion about launching a hiring process for an official City Manager. Several councilmembers spoke about giving the City’s new administration time to reset and see what can be done under new leadership. Greene has been with the city since 2009 and previously served as the Downtown Development Authority Director, Assistant City Manager, and Public Works Director.

-A special assessment was approved by the council for an alley behind buildings on the 100 block of E. Michigan Avenue in Downtown Jackson. The alley has pavement and drainage issues that need to be repaired. Construction will begin in the spring.

-A slew of spring and summer events in Downtown Jackson were given approval by the council, including the Jackson Law Enforcement Memorial, Jackson Pride Festival, Cruise In car shows, Food Truck Tuesdays, and the Gus Macker Tournament.
