The Jackson Fire Prevention Code states businesses with buildings that have automatic alarm systems and locked doors may be required to install a Jackson Fire Department approved key box containing keys to the locked portions of the building.
Knox Box Key Box
The only key box approved by the Jackson Fire Department is the Knox Box key box. One key held by the Jackson Fire Department will access all Jackson area businesses with Knox Boxes. Purchase of a Knox Box must be made on application forms provided by the Jackson Fire Department.
Over 300 boxes have been installed with several more in the process of being ordered or installed. The Rapid Key Box project has been incorporated into the annual company inspection program so that businesses are given the opportunity to meet the requirements of the ordinance. During the In-Service Inspection the keys located in the box are checked to ascertain that they are current.
