What is the BCBA?
The Building Code Board of Examiners and Appeals (BCBA) provides an opportunity to request a variance including financial hardship or an opportunity to receive a final extension of time for completing repairs to code violations.
How Do I Appeal?
To have an appeal heard, submit a Building Code Board of Appeals Application (PDF), along with the filing fee. Click on this to download the application. The application must be filed with the Community Development Department, which is located on the 3rd floor of Jackson City Hall.
Individuals are notified of the date and time of their hearing. If an appeal for extension is not granted, a Civil Infraction Violation and Notice of Hearing is issued to appear before the Administrative Hearings Bureau (AHB).
Meetings
The 2023 BCBA meeting schedule (PDF) is available online. Meetings are held the fourth Thursday of each month starting at 1:00 p.m., with the exception of meetings in November and December, which are scheduled for the third Thursday due to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The meetings are held in the City Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of Jackson City Hall. Meeting agendas and minutes are posted in the Agenda Center.
Membership
Members of the Building Code Board of Examiners and Appeals (BCBA) are chosen by the mayor of Jackson and are confirmed by the City Council. These citizens are appointed to 3-year terms. The BCBA must be made up of at least five members and include a building contractor, an architect or engineer, two members of the general public and one registered building official.
