[ARCHIVED] 2024 construction season kicks off with work on two neighborhood streets

2020 construction

Refreshing water infrastructure and repairing streets continues in Jackson this year with the start of the street construction season. The 2024 season kicks off Monday, April 15 with work launching on two neighborhood streets, Arnold Street and Oakridge Drive.

Arnold Street is a one-block residential street off Cooper Street on Jackson’s north side. Oakridge Drive is a residential street on Jackson’s west side. Work will focus on a one-block section of Oakridge between Grovedale Avenue and Glen Drive. Construction on Arnold and Oakridge will include replacing outdated water mains and lead service lines. After underground water work is complete at both locations, street surfaces, sidewalks and lawns will be repaired. Construction on these streets is expected to wrap up in late May.

More construction projects are scheduled to begin this April, with work starting on Blakely Avenue on Monday, April 22 and S. MLK Drive on Monday, April 29. A two-block section of Blakely between N. Elm Avenue and N. Pleasant Street will be reconstructed with a new water main, service lines and street surface. Pavement on this northeast side street is rapidly deteriorating and has not been replaced in decades. Construction on Blakely is expected to last through July. Homes and businesses on S. MLK Drive between E. Morrell Street and South Street are receiving lead service line replacements ahead of a major reconstruction project planned for the 2025 season . Construction on this one mile stretch on Jackson’s south side is expected to take place through Sept.

The City’s Engineering Division has planned 21 infrastructure improvement projects for 2024, including street resurfacing, pedestrian trail reconstruction, water service replacements, and traffic signal work. A full 2024 planned construction project list is available on the City website. The City website also has an interactive map for residents to see where construction is happening around Jackson, including information on project updates and street closures.
