The City of Jackson continues to respond to the impacts of heavy rain and flooding that hit the area on Wednesday, July 10. The City's water infrastructure was put under extreme pressure from the weather event, with our wastewater and stormwater systems at maximum capacity. This pressure on the system resulted in sanitary sewer overflows at the intersection of Adrian and Merriman streets and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
As of Thursday, July 11, the water infrastructure system is recovering and stabilized. Customers should not see any continued disruption to water services. Crews from the Department of Public Works are actively cleaning up the sewer overflow at Adrian and Merriman. Residents should avoid the area until the streets reopen to traffic.
Public Works is also removing trees that have fallen on streets and sidewalks. To report a tree that needs attention, please call Public Works at 517-788-4170. The City cannot intervene if the tree is on private property of Consumers Energy needs to address a downed power line first.
With massive rain events increasing, the City of Jackson will continue strengthening our water infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events.
