The City of Jackson is ending a Boil Water Advisory on Sunday, Dec. 15 for water customers in the City Limits and select properties in Summit, Blackman and Leoni townships. This means residents getting water from the City of Jackson can continue using their tap water without boiling it first. Recent tests show the water going to homes and businesses is safe to use.
A malfunction at the Water Treatment Plant on Friday, Dec. 13 caused a State of Michigan-mandated precautionary Boil Water Advisory for water customers. Tests of the water supply over a two day period have not shown any bacteria in the water, meaning the City may now lift the advisory. Following the malfunction on Friday, tests did not show any bacteria in the water supply. However, due to the potential for impacted water quality, it was important to inform water customers and follow State guidelines.
City officials thank residents for their patience and understanding during the two-day advisory. “Our customers put a lot of trust in us as a water supplier and we want to continue that trust. Providing clean drinking water is a top priority and we are certain that lessons learned from this incident will help prevent any future advisories,” said City Manager Jonathan Greene.
Residents will be notified about the ending of the advisory through the City’s CodeRED mass communication system, social media, website and local media. The State of Michigan has shared recommendations for flushing appliances and water lines following a Boil Water Advisory.
