In 2020, the Jackson City Council voted unanimously to create the
Martin Luther King, Jr. Corridor Improvement Authority (MLKCIA) and tasked it with reinvestment and revitalization of the city’s Southside neighborhoods.
Today, the MLKCIA announced the launch of a
survey for corridor residents and business owners that will provide valuable insights for the planning process. Accessible online at www.revivethesouthside.org, in gathering places across the city, or coming directly to neighborhood doors, the survey asks residents and business owners to consider which amenities and features they would like to see in the Southside as projects progress. “The changes we’re planning will take a lot oftime and resources, and this is the first step in getting people involved and excited about the future ofthe MLK Corridor,” said City Manager Jonathan Greene.
The survey is open through July 31st online at www.revivethesouthside.org. MLKCIA members and representatives will also be canvassing MLK Corridor neighborhoods to administer surveys in person, and hard copies of surveys will be located in churches and public gathering spaces around the city. MLKCIA hopes to obtain several hundred responses to ensure a variety of voices from the Corridor are represented. “Our goal has always been to keep the current investors in this neighborhood—the residents and business owners—at the forefront of this initiative,” said MLKCIA Member George Brown. “We want to know what they envision for the place they call “home,” he noted.
In July, the MLKCIA and partners are hosting a job and business resource fair to help residents and business owners find new opportunities in their work; more events and activities are on the horizon to keep the public engaged in the Southside revitalization.
