The Jackson City Police Department and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff are looking for Michigan residents who are interested in becoming reserve officers and reserve deputies. Reserve officers and deputies are volunteers who assist the Jackson City Police Department and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff by serving the citizens of the City of Jackson and County of Jackson. Reserves may assist regular sworn officers on patrol or assist with special community events, such as parades, firework events, and the fair. Candidates will receive extensive training in investigations, traffic enforcement, defensive tactics, firearms, narcotics, and criminal law.
Candidates must already possess or be able to obtain a Concealed Pistol License. Applications are available at the Jackson City Police Department, the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, or the City of Jackson website. Applications must be submitted by Friday, June 7, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Although this is a joint academy, candidates will be selected by and volunteer with only one department.
The reserve academy will start in September and last 15 weeks. Classes will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a few Saturdays.
