5-25 mtg slide

The Jackson City Council held a virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 25. A recording of the meeting is available on this page. Here are highlights from the meeting:

  • Jackson water and sewer customers will see a rate increase starting in July. The City Council approved a 12% increase for water rates and a 4% sewer rate increase. The water increase is to account for the projected $120 million cost of replacing the City’s lead water service lines and to make up for lost revenue. The sewer increase is a standard cost of living increase to keep up with costs of maintaining the sewer system.
  • The new City Budget for the 2021-22 Fiscal Year was approved by the City Council.
  • The proposed Neighborhood Association Ordinance was voted down by the City Council. The City Manager was directed to come up with an alternative proposal.
  • The City Council voted to fund improvements to the entrance to the Jackson Police Department. The front stairs and ramp need to be upgraded to make the entrance more accessible.
  • The City Council approved two more social district permits. Nite Lite Bar and Ogma Brewery were granted permission to participate in the social district. They will now need State approval to participate in the district.

The next City Council meeting is Tuesday, June 8.
