[ARCHIVED] Jackson City Council June 8 Meeting

Jackson City Council 6-8-21 meeting

The Jackson City Council held a virtual meeting on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Here are highlights from the meeting:

  • The City of Jackson will now apply for a $3 million loan from the State of Michigan to pay for lead service line replacements following a vote of approval from the City Council. It will cost an estimated $120 million to replace all of the City’s 11,300 lead service lines. If it’s granted by the State, the loan will help the City begin efforts to replace lead service lines earlier than planned.
  • The City Council approved three ordinance changes regarding the City’s rental inspection program. For residents, this means rentals that are offered to immediate family members do not need to be inspected and registered with the City, rental inspections will now happen on a three year cycle instead of two years, and all long-term vacant properties must be registered with the City. Previously, only vacant residential properties had to be registered.
  • The City Council approved several summer events, such as the Art, Beer and Wine Festival and a YMCA weekly exercise class on the top of the MLK Drive Parking Garage.
  • A social district permit for the Crazy Cowboy was approved by the City Council. It will need State of Michigan approval before it’s allowed to serve in the district. This is the fourth business to join the social district.
  • The sale of three City-owned properties was approved by the City Council. The City has sold more than 50 properties since the beginning of 2021.

A full recording of the meeting is available on this page.
