[ARCHIVED] Jackson City Council Nov. 23 Meeting

Jackson City Council Meeting 11-23-21

Here are highlights of what happened at Nov. 23, 2021 meeting of the Jackson City Council:

  • Efforts to support affordable housing in the City of Jackson are getting a big boost after a vote from the City Council. A total of $4.5 million in American Rescue Plan funds was allocated by the council to fund affordable housing programs. A new Affordable Housing Development Board will oversee the initiatives and spending.
  • Juneteenth is now an official holiday in the City of Jackson. The City Council voted to recognize June 19 as Juneteenth annually. This recognition will close City facilities every year on June 19 and provides a paid holiday for employees. This comes after the federal government recognized Juneteenth as a federal holiday earlier this year.
  •  The Cascades Park is getting bigger following a vote from the City Council. The council approved plans to turn over property that’s no longer being used for streets to Jackson County for additional park space in the Cascades area. Street width in the area was reduced this fall.
  •  Events for 2022 such as the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament and Fall Fest and Chili Classic were approved by the council.

A recording of the meeting is available on this page.
