[ARCHIVED] Jackson City Council Jan. 25, 2022 Meeting

Jackson City Council MEETING UPDATE (1)

Here are highlights of what happened at the Jan. 25, 2022 Jackson City Council meeting:

-Three streets in Ella Sharp Park will close for the rest of the winter season. The City Council approved a plan to close portions of Birchwood, Maplewood and Hickory in the park. The Parks and Recreation Department called for closing the streets to curb illegal activity in the park and reduce the amount of City streets that need to be cleared in the winter.

-The City Council approved a construction contract for a water main replacement on S. West Avenue between W. Michigan Avenue and Carlton Boulevard. The current water main is more than 100 years old and is undersized. The project will begin sometime in 2022 and is being paid for through City water funds.

-A bridge that crosses the Grand River on E. High Street is going to be replaced. The City Council approved a construction plan with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to replace the bridge, which is nearly 60 years old. The majority of project is being paid for by MDOT.

-25 new street lights are coming to Jackson. The City Council approved the installation of new street lights along neighborhood streets. The installations come after resident requests for additional lighting on their streets.

-A new marijuana facility is planned in Jackson. The City Council approved a conditional license for a grow facility planned on Hupp Avenue.
