[ARCHIVED] S. West Avenue back open to traffic following construction project

S. West Ave. construction update

S. West Avenue between W. Michigan Avenue and Carlton Boulevard is back open to traffic following the completion of a sizable construction project. A three block stretch of the busy street was closed from mid-April to Sept. for a water main and lead service line replacement project.

46 lead service lines were replaced, along with a 96-year-old undersized water main. This means residents along S. West Avenue are now enjoying better water pressure and quality. The project area also included improvements at the intersection of S. West Avenue and W. Franklin Street, including updated traffic signals, new street surface, and improved crosswalks. The traffic signal at the W. Washington Avenue intersection was also removed for better traffic flow.

Residents wanting to learn more about lead service line replacements are encouraged to visit the Lining Up Jackson section of the City website.
