[ARCHIVED] Jackson City Council April 19, 2022 meeting

Jackson City Council Meeting Update (2)

Here are highlights from the April 19, 2022 meeting of the Jackson City Council meeting:

  • Lighting is coming to a 1.9 mile stretch of City’s main pedestrian trail. The City Council voted to approve a contract to install lighting along the MLK Equality Trail from W. Prospect Street to Weatherwax Drive. The LED lights will be installed on 62 new poles starting in mid-July. The lighting will improve safety on the trail and allow residents to use it more frequently during the winter when there’s less sunlight. Lighting was installed on the trail from W. Prospect to the MLK Center in 2018. This project will fully light the entire length of the trail. This project is partially funded by a grant from the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources.
  • New street lights are coming to Jackson neighborhoods. The City Council approved the installation of five new street lights in the southwest area of the City. More street light installations in other neighborhoods will be considered later this year.
  • Improvements are coming to the Central Fire Station. The City Council approved a contract to reconstruct the parking lot surrounding the Jackson Fire Department’s central station. The current parking lot is increasingly deteriorating, and creates a risk to both personal injury and increased wear and tear of the City’s fire trucks.
  • Several spring and summer events were approved by the City Council, including the Memorial Day Parade and Civil War Muster.
