Here are highlights of what happened at the Tuesday, Dec. 20 special meeting of the Jackson City Council. The meeting was convened for the council to make decisions on how to combat homelessness and housing insecurity in the City of Jackson. The following was decided:
- Allocate $150,000 in American Rescue Plan funds to purchase and construct 10 small pallet homes for homeless individuals to live in.
- Pursue a lease agreement with Jackson Public Schools for the City to use the vacant T.A. Wilson Academy building on W. Morrell Street for housing homeless residents.
- Accept a proposal from the local group Residents in Action to provide various housing and living assistance for homeless residents, including supporting extended motel stays.
