Jackson residents looking to learn more about the work of Code Enforcement Officers have an upcoming opportunity.  The City of Jackson is holding its first Coffee with a Code Officer event on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the MLK Recreation Center.

With nearly 50 percent of the City’s population living in rental housing, Code Enforcement Officers do the important work of inspecting rentals to make sure property owners are following housing codes and the units are safe for tenants. Working out of the City’s Department of Community Development, the officers also help Jackson look its best by following up on various blight, trash and property violations.

Code Enforcement Officer John O’Connor says this will be an opportunity for residents to meet officers and ask questions. “There are often misconceptions about our work, so it’s important that residents understand all we do to help the community,” O’Connor said. “We’re starting this event in Ward 1 and plan on bringing it to other neighborhoods throughout the year.”

Coffee and donuts will be provided at the event. The MLK Recreation Center is located at 1107 Adrian St.
